About Us!
Founded in 1944, Community Retirement Home, Inc., has proudly served Port Arthur and the surrounding Golden Triangle area for 80 years. We were established by the Federation Missionary Society—comprised of members from local churches—who saw a critical need for safe, dignified housing for elderly residents living in unsuitable conditions. What began as a humble farmhouse on Procter Street has grown into a vibrant, non-profit community focused on supporting seniors with comfort, independence, and respect.
Mission Statement
Our Mission is to provide an affordable, desirable, ambulatory, supervised care in an independent senior living center where our residents may receive supported services through other agencies.
Vision Statement
Our Vision for the Community Retirement Home is to provide a non-profit residential retirement facility, which includes a quality, safe, and affordable faith- based experience for independent senior living.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with the support of community members, grants, and charitable donations, we offer essential services at affordable rates to ensure that all seniors have access to a safe and fulfilling retirement, regardless of financial circumstances. Our dedicated, volunteer Board of Directors and professional staff uphold our mission and vision daily, creating a community where seniors can thrive and enjoy a true sense of belonging.
Our facility has grown significantly over the decades, from the initial purchase of the “Model Dairy Farm” property to the construction of modern residential buildings and a multi-purpose facility in the 1960s and 1970s. Dr. John M. White Jr.’s generous donation of his adjoining clinic in 1990 further expanded our campus, allowing us to provide private accommodations and more shared spaces for socializing and wellness activities. Today, we have the capacity to welcome 35 residents, each enjoying private, comfortable rooms with access to shared amenities and community spaces.
Community Retirement Home is not a nursing facility. It's an assisted living and independent community dedicated to seniors who wish to live life on their own terms, with added convenience and support. Our services include nutritious meals, housekeeping, laundry, activity programs, and spiritual support, all in a warm, community-oriented setting. With the help of generous donations, we’re able to maintain low costs, provide financial assistance to residents in need, and continually improve our facilities.
As we celebrate 80 years, we remain deeply grateful to the Port Arthur community and surrounding areas for their consistent support. Their generosity has allowed us to keep our founding promise: to create a safe, dignified place where seniors can live comfortably and independently. Each donation, whether large or small, ensures we can continue to grow, adapt, and serve future generations of seniors with the same compassion and dedication that have been our hallmark since 1944.
